In the past year, the population equivalent of a large Irish town has been left on trolleys in the country’s most overcrowded hospital.

The accident and emergency department in University Hospital Limerick (UHL) has become the most feared destination for patients, because the risk they will be left on a trolley is higher than any other hospital in the country.
