New EU law would stop banks and insurers from penalising cancer survivors

The Irish Cancer Society and an Irish MEP have called on the government to support European efforts to stop insurance companies and banks from penalising cancer survivors.

The proposal, which would require companies to disregard the medical history of cancer survivors after a period of time when issuing insurance plans or loans, has been advanced in the European Parliament by Deirdre Clune, Fine Gael MEP for Ireland South.
